Looking for your dream job in a dream place? Why not try beautiful Dorset?
We are looking for an experienced vet with an interest in internal small animal medicine to continue the work of our CertSAM, Pablo, who is returning to his native Spain. If you have a CertSAM, CertAVP(SAM) or higher qualification in medicine OR would like to; if you would like to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country; if you would like to work in a fantastic new, purpose built surgery; and most importantly if you would like to work with a talented, highly skilled, supportive team, then you could be the person we are looking for.
a new or recently qualified vet who is ready to embrace the great opportunities we have to offer. We have the time, space and support to allow you to find your feet, find out where your talents lie, find how you will take the next step of your career and find the confidence you need to realise your potential. If you think you would thrive working in our wonderful new surgery with our lovely, talented team then
Who we are:
We are a thriving and progressive 100% small animal practice based in Weymouth (2012 Olympic sailing venue!) with a branch surgery 8 miles away in the beautiful county town of Dorchester. We are a family ran practice with a really friendly and positive vibe. We are local and independent and have been vets in Weymouth and Dorchester for over 50 years.
where we are:
Imagine living somewhere where you can be in the heart of an area of outstanding natural beauty and yet only a few minutes drive from one of the most beautiful and spectacular coastlines in the country. Thomas Hardy country merges into the Jurassic coast where you can swim, sail, climb, walk or just be. Picturesque villages, a wonderful vibrant county town and a truly great quality of life are all here for the taking. Whether you are a town or country person, this part of west Dorset has so much to offer and we haven’t even started on the great schools, great places to eat and great pubs.
what we are:
In November 2016 we made the move into our new, purpose built, hospital standard surgery in Weymouth. This surgery is the culmination of years of wishing and planning and we are hugely proud to say that it is now one of the best facilities in the county.
At present we have 10 vets but with some of them working part-time we actually have around 7.5 full time equivalents.
We cover our own out of hours with vets doing a 1 in 6 on-call, but we have arranged the rota such that full timers work a 4 day week and get a 3pm finish every week as well.
Our vets share responsibility for operating and consulting but we encourage them to pursue areas of special interest allowing us to refer far fewer cases and keep as much work as possible “in house”. We have team members with advanced surgical skills, an interest in dentisty and further qualifications in feline medicine. We are a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice.
Our branch surgery has had extensive refurbishment allowing us to operate there every day of the week. We are a practice that prides itself on allowing a large amount of clinical freedom but that is combined with regular vet meetings to talk through clinical protocols and issues that arise so that the practice does not send a contradictory message to our clients. We also have a morning ward round which allows in-patient cases to be discussed and treatment plans set up. It is also an opportunity to put difficult on-going cases to the rest of the team.
We are a nurse training practice and we aim to maintain a high number of qualified, registered nurses who are given responsibility for running daily nurse clinics. Our nurses are highly skilled and we encourage them to use those skills to the full. We like our nursing team to run with one 1st year trainee, one 2nd year trainee and the rest fully qualified. There is always a nurse available out of hours to support the vet on call.
We are a practice which cares – we care about our clients, we care about their pets and we care about the happiness of our team
“caring for your pets as if they were our own”
