For a permanent role we really do need someone with experience and they must be confident and competent to perform casearian, GDV and pyometra type surgery without assistance. Support is always there for all tasks so this is just being mentioned to give an idea of the level we require for this vacancy, rather than specify a number of years qualified.

We also have a lot of brachycephalic owners and breeders in our local community and within the wider regional area, so although we do not encourage this breeding,  it is imperative that the successful candidate is able to work with these patients in a compassionate, non-judgemental and professional manner, and share our aims to improve the welfare of the individuals presented to us, and to participate in educating pet owners to understand the problems associated with the breeds, and improving breeding standards of these animals on a wider level.

Another important and sometimes different aspect to our practice that is worth mentioning (there are others!)  is that we base our nutritional advice and preventative healthcare approach on species-appropriate natural feeding, which is centred on feeding raw meat-based diets to dogs and cats.  It is an increasingly active and large part of work that complements our high standard of clinical care, so the ideal candidate would be one who already has an interest or experience of this, or one who is willing to learn and embrace this concept.
